Why Depth Matters

Your seeds don't feel the air temperature

Most weather apps show air temperature — but germination happens in the soil. A warm 65°F afternoon can mask a 44°F ground temperature at 2 inches.

SoilIQ tracks four true soil depths so you know the temperature where your seeds actually sit.

The SoilIQ app extends this with 14-day forecasts, crop-specific alerts, and watering schedules tailored to your exact location and crop.

The full experience lives

Questions

Frequently asked

We use Open-Meteo, which aggregates data from multiple NWP models including ECMWF, GFS, and ERA5. Soil temperature accuracy is typically within 2–4°F of ground-truth measurements, updated hourly. For critical decisions, cross-reference with a physical soil thermometer.
Ranges are based on data from the USDA, University Extension programs, and seed supplier specifications. "Ready Now" = current temp within the ideal range. "Coming Up" = within 8°F of the minimum. The SoilIQ app covers 130+ crops with AI-powered planting window analysis.
Weather model data resolves at approximately 0.1° grid cells (~7 miles). Two nearby ZIPs in different grid cells will show slightly different values. For hyper-local accuracy, use a physical soil thermometer or the SoilIQ app's calibration feature.
This page is completely free, no account required. The SoilIQ iOS app adds: 14-day soil forecasts, all 130+ crops, custom watering schedules with push reminders, frost risk alerts, soil health scoring, a growing journal, and a live Home Screen widget — updated continuously in the background.
